Congratulations! Your synopsis and 1,000-word manuscript have been selected for the 2010 Midwest Writers Workshop Fellowship. Nine Fellowships were selected from more than 65 entries in this competition.
The Writers Retreat begins Friday, May 7, in the Potawatomi Inn at Pokagon State Park, north of Angola in northeastern Indiana.
WORKING SCHEDULE FOR THE 2010 MWW FELLOWS RETREAT
9:00 a.m. Alan welcomes all; explains agenda; we introduce ourselves.
9:45 – 11:45 We divide into our three groups for our first meeting. Members of the groups will offer feedback on manuscripts followed by mentor’s feedback.
Noon – 1:00 LUNCH
1 – 2:30 Mentors meet one-on-one for 30 minutes with each participant. The other group members will be working independently in their rooms.
2:30 – 3:00 Roundtable #1 Topic: SELF EDITING
Terry will discuss techniques for self editing, universal proofreading marks, the difference between line and content editing, the wisdom of asking friends to edit manuscripts.
3:00 to 4:30 Second meeting with the three groups for progress reports on rewriting and revision efforts. Are you on track? What challenges are you encountering?
5:00 – 6:00 DINNER
6:15—This evening is for participants to return to their rooms to work on their manuscripts. Mentors will be available for coaching as needed until 10 p.m. in the lobby area.
8:00 to 9:00 BREAKFAST
9:00 – 11:00 The groups convene at their tables to review the revisions and to offer feedback and suggestions on changes each writer has made.
11:00 – 11:30 Roundtable #2 Topic: AGENTS
Everyone gathers for a session of interest to all. Holly will discuss agents: other mentors will participate after her presentation.
1:00 – 2:00 Pitching Your Writing Project to an editorial board. You have just ten minutes to do it.
2:00 – 3:00 Roundtable #3 Topic: WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? Several specific ideas of what we should do to continue the momentum at home.
3:00 Alan will explain the evaluation process and close the session.
