Nerds attack!

Just one of the many responses to the  grad school alumni listserv e-mail I shared with you about an hour ago:

“Whether or not you were dedicated enough to engage with his ideas in between bullshitting about the Magnetic Fields, updating your ipod playlist, and checking out that *new tapas restaurant you’ve heard so much about*, you cannot avoid the fact that Louis Althusser was a vastly influential thinker.”

Truly. Madly. Deeply.  Right when I thought I had some sympathy for Mr. K——-‘s distaste for anti-intellectualism and potpourri style emails on IRONY, I rear-ended the pompous 1934 Packard driving around a ruined post-industrial Paterson, Jersey.

Again, let us soak in its redolent airs:

“Whether or not you were dedicated enough to engage with his ideas in between bullshitting about the Magnetic Fields, updating your ipod playlist, and checking out that *new tapas restaurant you’ve heard so much about*, you cannot avoid the fact that Louis Althusser was a vastly influential thinker.”

Because  I like Magnetic Fields?  Because the email crashed my ipod?  Because it ruined the post-gustatorial bliss of a fine tapas dinner earlier in the evening?

None of the above.  I’m even more lumpen.  I love the paintings of Michael Godard, eat Hardees with a grin, and think about Lady Gaga vis-a-vis Cixous’ skewering of Judt’s filet of Derrida’s Sausserean revisions!  How’s that for a triple toe lutz!

For the love of the great god Pan, may all of us M— alums expand beyond this cosmically self-involved bantering and narcissism.  In the meantime, more furniture emails!

I’m catty too!
